Globe THE FLIGHT

After taking the train to Frankfurt we had a few hours to kill till departure. As soon as we've checked in and found our gate we're just sitting there.....waiting. Meanwhile it was dark......Friday, April 8th, 1994.
From the huge windows in the departure lounge we could see the plane. Sigrid, my friend got all excited, cause it was the first time she saw a plane this close and hasn't expected it sooooo big. She just couldn't believe that she's gonna fly in a thing like that. It was a Boing 747-400. Soon we're ready for boarding and she was very quiet. The only words she's said, were "oh my god, I'm gonna fly in that thing", and suddenly she had tears in her eyes.
I felt for her.
Eventually we got on board and the aircraft began to move and taxi to the runway. It was so funny cause she said "well, that's pretty boring". I really had to hold back my laughter and was amused.

As the plane really made speed and finally took off, her eyes grew bigger and bigger and she was holding a pillow in her lap. She didn't dare to look out of the window, just asked me "are we up there already?".... but finally relaxed and could enjoy the flight, rather, she really liked it, cause the service was great and it was very quiet.
The route led from Frankfurt over Munich to Austria, Romania, Albania, Turkey, Iran, Persia to India and to Thailand/Bankok were we're going to land.

After 10 hours and 20 minutes we got off the plane in Bankok. It was Saturday afternoon in Thailand and terribly hot there. I had to laugh again cause my friend was wearing a warm sweater. Have I mentioned that she's never been anywhere in the world?

Well, Bankok was a paradise..........we just had time to run to the bathroom and our flight was called already: "the aircraft to Sydney is ready for boarding".
The flight time now was going to be 1 hour and 40 minutes and we landed in Indonesia/Singapor. Same thing happened there........getting off the plane looking for a bathroom, getting back on board.
Ok, we thought, we are ready to see Sydney now. Far from it! We're still about 8 flight hours away but we kept ourselves busy eating and drinking red wine.
Finally on Sunday, 5 a.m., we arrived in

Sydney
more than 18,000 km away from Germany, from home. Wow!
